A Ceremony of Carols: A Trinity Youth Chorus Tradition
Benjamin Britten’s A Ceremony of Carols was inspired by the Anglican tradition of Lessons and Carols, a service of readings and music that tell the story of Christ’s birth. Using only harp and voices, Britten’s work conveys the sweeping range of emotions woven into the Christmas narrative. As Trinity Church’s Director of Music Education Peyton Marion explains, A Ceremony of Carols holds special meaning for the Trinity Youth Chorus, a diverse ensemble of young New Yorkers who take part in Trinity Church’s free music education program.
