Easter Sunday Sermon, The Rev. Phillip A. Jackson: “Lessons of the Resurrection”

In his Easter sermon, Father Phil Jackson summarizes the narrative arc of Jesus’s life in the Gospels and offers lessons we can take from his victory over death. “The resurrection tells us that the gap between you and God is closed,” preaches Father Phil. “God is with you even beyond death. And nothing — nothing you do, nothing you say, nothing at all — can separate you from the love of God in Christ.”

Great Vigil of Easter

The Great Vigil of Easter is one of the oldest known rites of the Christian church, dating back to the second century. It brings worshippers, literally and symbolically, from darkness into light through the kindling of new fire, reading of scriptures, and the sacraments of Baptism and the Eucharist. After weeks of preparation, more joyful elements return to service, including a riotous display of flowers and the word Alleluia, which has not been spoken during the past forty days of Lent.

This symbol-rich liturgy features candlelit readings, psalms and canticles, Holy Baptism, the First Eucharist of Easter, and festive choral anthems sung by Trinity Choir.
