Trinity Talks: Kevin Sack

Forgiveness and resilience in the face of tragedy

Time:
-
Date:
Location: St. Paul's Chapel

About the Event:

Few people had heard of Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church before June 17, 2015. But in the decade since a white supremacist shot and killed the church’s pastor and eight of its parishioners, it has become a symbol of resilience and resistance. While reporting on the tragedy for The New York Times, Pulitzer Prize–winning journalist Kevin Sack became fascinated by the history of Mother Emanuel, one of the oldest Black congregations in the South and a witness to the long struggle for racial justice. On September 25, Sack sits down with the Rev. Phillip A. Jackson to discuss his new book, Mother Emanuel: Two Centuries of Race, Resistance, and Forgiveness in One Charleston Church, which delves into the deep legacy of forgiveness in the Black church.

Doors open at 6pm with light refreshments offered. There will be a book signing following the talk.
