Good Friday Reflection, The Rev. Kristin Kaulbach Miles “An Unbreakable Communion with God”
“When everything is lost, something is left.” As part of the Liturgy of Good Friday at Trinity Church Wall Street, the Rev. Kristin Kaulbach Miles offered a reflection on the Passion of Jesus. While many speak of Jesus’s seven “I am” statements, Mother Kristin reminds us there’s an eighth example: in the Garden of Gethsemane when the authorities told him they were searching for Jesus of Nazareth and Jesus replied “I am he.” Mother Kristin notes that Jesus embraced his identity, an embrace that expands rather than contracts the world, and suggests we imitate that positive embrace, and on this Good Friday, not only meditate on the Cross, but also allow it to change us. Watch the reflection. The readings are Isaiah 52:13—53:12; Psalm 22; Hebrews 10:16–25 and John 18:1—19:42.
