Comfort at One: Handel's Messiah (Part 4)
December 16, 2021
For today’s Comfort at One, we give you one of the most dramatic movements of Messiah, “He was despised,” powerfully performed in this clip by Jonathan Woody of The Choir of Trinity Wall Street.
In the longest and arguably most moving aria of the oratorio, Handel musically portrays the Messiah’s sacrifice with the text of Isaiah 53:3. “He was despised, rejected of men, a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief.”
Please join us on Facebook tomorrow at 1pm to hear the entire oratorio (recorded in 2019) or watch it on demand here.
