Frederick Douglass: Prophet of Freedom Book Talk with Author David Blight

The voice of Frederick Douglass has never been more relevant or necessary.
 
The Rev. Phillip Jackson, Vicar of Trinity Church Wall Street, hosted a Q&A with David Blight, followed by a reception and book signing. This was one of the author’s only public appearances in New York City.

The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and Time named Frederick Douglass: Prophet of Freedom one of the top 10 best books of 2018. Award-winning historian and Yale professor David Blight’s lifelong interest in Douglass has produced an impressive biography that sheds light into the last thirty years of Douglass’s life, based on letters and papers housed in a private collection which no biographer has previously referenced.

David Blight is a Class of 1954 Professor of American History and Director of the Gilder Lehrman Center for the Study of Slavery, Resistance, and Abolition at Yale University. He is the author or editor of a dozen books, has researched Douglass much of his professional life, and been awarded the Bancroft Prize, the Abraham Lincoln Prize, and the Frederick Douglass Prize, among others.
