Ash Wednesday Sermon, The Rev. Matthew A. Welsch: "And To Dust You Shall Return"

“Today is Ash Wednesday and we have gathered at another threshold to pray, to repent, and to remind one another of a truth," preaches Father Matt Welsch. "We are biologically hard-wired to resist with every fiber of our being, that each of us will die, we are mortal.”

He invites us to dedicate this day as a day of prayer and fasting for peace in Ukraine and around the world, and reminds us “violence and greed, war and oppression, sin and death, all will pass away, giving way to the Kingdom of God, which is justice and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.” The readings are Joel 2:1–2, 12–17; Psalm 103; 2 Corinthians 5:20b—6:10 and Matthew 6:1–6, 16–21.
