As we celebrate the Baptism of Our Lord Jesus Christ today, we encounter the timely new year theme of “beginnings” or, as Mother Beth preaches, “beginnings within beginnings built on beginnings that came before.” But there is no beginning without a backstory, and “we don’t get to shut the door on the past” so how do we revive and reaffirm our faith day in and day out? The readings are Genesis 1:1–5; Psalm 29; Acts 19:1–7; and Mark 1:4–11.
