Trinity Wall Street hosts New York City’s Annual Festival of Early Music with daily performances at Trinity Church and St. Paul’s Chapel in Lower Manhattan. The Festival features concerts by the Choir of Trinity Wall Street and Trinity Baroque Orchestra, under the direction of Julian Wachner, as well as Avi Stein, The Bishop’s Band, Cappella Romana, Clarion Music Society, Ensemble Viscera, Gotham Early Music Scene, Grand Harmonie, Holy Trinity Bach Vespers, NY Baroque Inc., Roomful of Teeth, Ryland Angel, and the Trinity Youth Chorus.
Messiah and Trinity have a long history – Trinity presented one of the first performances of the work in North America in 1770, and the GRAMMY®- nominated Trinity Choir and Trinity Baroque Orchestra are still widely regarded as some of the greatest interpreters of the work. The ensemble’s 2012 performance was hailed by Zachary Woolfe of The New York Times “…to experience the full, formidable range of ‘Messiah,’ from the furious flames of the ‘refiner’s fire’ to the delirious party of the finale… let Trinity be your guide.” “A model of what is musically and emotionally possible” (NY Times), Trinity Wall Street performs its annually celebrated Messiah, conducted by Julian Wachner.

This year’s Discovery theme, “New Every Morning,” reminds us that God promises not so much consistency as constancy – steadfast, loving faithfulness through changes, large and small. In the prayer known as The Magnificat (Luke 1:46-55), Mary says “yes” to God’s audacious, mind-boggling, world-changing invitation to give birth to the One by whom all will be measured and blessed. She knows that nothing will ever be the same, as the mighty are cast down and the lowly raised up. In the four Sundays in Advent we will explore how we, like Mary, can access the spiritual resources we need to navigate the places of upheaval, change, and promise in our lives.
The Trinity Youth Chorus and Outreach Choirs with the Trinity Youth Orchestra present a holiday concert featuring Britten’s Ceremony of Carols and a holiday carol sing. Melissa Attebury, conductor.
