Our programs and partner organizations provide free legal support for individuals and families facing eviction, struggling to pay rent, or experiencing homelessness, and also offer emergency shelter, mental health support, substance abuse counseling, and more. 

Programs at Trinity 

Housing Clinic 

October 1–December 3 
First and Third Tuesday, 6:30–8pm 

Are you a tenant currently involved in a landlord-tenant dispute? In this discussion-based clinic, you’ll have the opportunity to share your housing issue and then talk through the next steps and solutions with the group. Plus, learn your rights as a tenant and options for dealing with housing challenges. 

Housing Legal Support 

Coalition for the Homeless 

The Coalition’s Crisis Intervention Hotline provides assistance to anyone in New York who is unsheltered, homeless, on the brink of homelessness, or struggling to survive. Callers will receive immediate help from experienced and dedicated advocates. Additionally, the Coalition’s Eviction Prevention Hotline is open every Wednesday. The organization offers one-time grants of $1,000, on average, to those who can demonstrate the ability to pay their rent going forward, and leverages any additional funds needed for the arrears from government agencies and other nonprofits.

Housing Court Answers 

The Housing Court Answers hotline provides numerous referrals and information for those involved seeking to negotiate a dispute in New York City Housing Court. Resources include information on housing court and housing court procedures, landlord and tenant rules and regulations, enforcement of housing code violations, referrals for free legal help, and referrals to community organizations that assist with housing problems. They do not provide direct financial help for paying back rent but will refer clients to charitable organizations.

Legal Aid Society 

The Legal Aid Society provides free legal assistance on several housing-related issues including eviction, foreclosure, homelessness, and more. If a person-in-need has an upcoming eviction case in housing court, you do not need to contact Legal Aid. All cases go through the Right to Counsel (“Universal Access”) program to determine whether eligible NYC tenants with an eviction case in housing court can get representation or advice.

Center for Family Representation 

Center for Family Representation provides free legal representation, social work services, and mentoring to support parents and youth. They have built a highly skilled team to represent parents in housing court and administrative proceedings to avoid eviction, secure repairs of heat, stoves, and plumbing, and access benefits to obtain stable housing, like ACS vouchers. This resource is solely reserved for families/parents.

Brooklyn Legal Services Corp A 

Brooklyn A’s Preserving Affordable Housing program uses legal and organizing strategies to protect affordable housing, prevent evictions, combat tenant harassment and discrimination, and ensure tenants have access to safe housing. Clients can be eligible for these services if their income is lower than $30,120 for individuals and $62,400 for a family of four.

Part of the Solution 

Part of the Solution, based in the Bronx, works with attorneys and legal advocates to help clients secure public benefits and navigate eviction proceedings.

Street Outreach for Unhoused Individuals 

City of New York 

The City of New York’s non-emergency hotline will connect you to the Department of Homeless Services’ Mobile Outreach Response team. That team will arrive onsite within one hour to encourage available services.

Bowery Residents Committee Bowery Residents Committee 

BRC’s homeless outreach teams work 24/7/365 in the subways and streets of New York City to assist the unsheltered to come inside, offering shelter on terms clients can accept. Their teams are in the subways, at Penn Station and Grand Central, and throughout Manhattan.

Breaking Ground 

Breaking Ground contacts more than 2,000 street homeless individuals and connects more than 500 individuals to housing, medical and mental health services, substance abuse counseling, and other essential supports each year. Breaking Ground is the sole outreach provider for the entire boroughs of Brooklyn and Queens, 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. They are also responsible for a significant portion of Midtown Manhattan as a member of the Manhattan Outreach Consortium (MOC).

Coalition for the Homeless 

The Coalition’s Crisis Intervention Hotline provides assistance to anyone in New York who is unsheltered, homeless, on the brink of homelessness, or struggling to survive. Callers receive immediate help from their experienced and dedicated advocates. The Coalition also provides walk-in services at 129 Fulton Street between 9:30am and 2pm, Monday through Friday.

Fifth Avenue Committee 

Fifth Avenue Committee provides housing-related services including public benefits access, financial coaching, tenant advocacy, first-time homebuyer trainings, and more.

Nazareth Housing 

Nazareth Housing alleviates the multiple causes of homelessness to establish and maintain housing stability. Whether it’s access to benefits, housing support, effective budgeting, educational workshops, or improved employment, Nazareth Housing provides permanent life-changing resources that break the cycle of homelessness.

P.A.'L.A.N.T.E., which stands for People Against Landlord Abuse and Tenant Exploitation, provides a broad array of services including homelessness prevention, fresh groceries, homeownership technical assistance, and tenant advocacy.
