Stricken with a case of “World Cup fever,” Father Michael shares what he thinks Argentina’s star player Lionel Messi has to teach us about finding our ideal “ready state” for this new season of Advent.
We’re human beings and we all have gifts, skills, and tools that can be used to hurt or help, too. God is always with us to help us choose the ways of love and creation that the prophets envisioned.
“Advent liturgy often begins with apocalyptic prophecies from Jeremiah, Isaiah, John the Baptist, and Jesus,” writes Kathryn Carroll. “We might have to dig deep to reignite or refresh our enthusiasm for the season.”
Many children don’t like endings, or transitions, unless they know what’s going to happen next (and if it’s something good). This Sunday, we’ll hear the prophecies and songs about what is possible with new beginnings and, in the Gospel, we’ll hear some of Jesus’s final but comforting words on the cross.
