Remembering Bishop David Njovu (1961-2022)
The Most Rev. Albert Chama, Archbishop and Primate of the Anglican Province of Central Africa, has announced the death of the Rt. Rev. David Njovu, bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Lusaka in Zambia. Bishop Njovu died on Tuesday, April 26, at age 60.
For more than a decade, along with other Anglican bishops in Africa, Bishop Njovu partnered with Trinity Church Wall Street to train priests and lay church members in Mission Real Estate Development, a program in which dioceses and parishes use their property to generate revenue to fund and sustain ministry, and to build projects that serve community needs. The bishop played an essential role in organizing dozens of training workshops in every region of Africa and served as a member of the team of “resource bishops” who coordinated the week-long educational sessions. Bishop Njovu also shared his insight on compassion, one of the Core Values of Trinity Church Wall Street.
"Our Trinity Church Wall Street family mourns the loss of such a champion in ministry. Bishop David was always ready to serve and support the work of the Church and was a vital partner in the successful growth of our capacity-building initiative throughout Africa,” said the Rev. Phillip A. Jackson, Trinity’s Rector.
“We are grateful for the time and talents he shared with us, and we pray for God’s peace and strength for his family, his fellow clergy, and the parishioners under his leadership.”
In addition to his work across Africa in support of Mission Real Estate Development, Bishop Njovu completed successful projects to sustain ministry in his own diocese of Lusaka, including a shopping center, an apartment complex called Shelby Taylor Flats, and office projects.
The Vicar General of Lusaka is expected to announce funeral arrangements for Bishop Njovu within the next few days.
