The Choir of Trinity Wall Street and Trinity Baroque Orchestra perform the cantatas of Johann Sebastian Bach each week as part of “Bach at One.” A devout Lutheran, Bach composed 200 cantatas using both sacred and secular texts.
This week:
J. S. Bach – Allein Gott in der Höh' sei Her, BWV 662
BWV 149 – Man singet mit Freuden vom Sieg
BWV 146 – Wir müssen durch viel Trübsal in das Reich Gottes eingehen

This symbol-rich liturgy features candlelit readings and storytelling, ancient and modern chants, and the joyful arrival of Easter with festive music, the celebration of Baptism, and the first Eucharist of Easter; followed by a special fellowship hour.
The Solemn Liturgy of Good Friday is an extended reflection on the events and meaning of Jesus' crucifixion. It includes the Veneration of the Cross, a reflective series of prayers for repentance and forgiveness, and the chanting of the Gospel of the Passion by the Choir of Trinity Wall Street. On this day alone the Holy Eucharist is not celebrated (communion from the reserved sacrament is available on Friday morning at 8am in All Saints' Chapel).
This service commemorates Jesus’ last meal with his friends and his commission to service in the ritual of footwashing. It concludes by preparing the church for Good Friday.
The Office of Tenebrae is sung by the Choir of Trinity Wall Street. During the service of Tenebrae, candles are gradually extinguished while a series of readings and psalms are chanted or recited. Followed by an Agape Supper in the Manning Room (Trinity Church).
In the spring of 2016, Trinity’s ever-popular Bach at One series (Wednesdays at 1pm in St. Paul’s Chapel), will complete the presentation of Bach’s entire monumental output of sacred vocal music.
