Partnerships
Trinity Church Wall Street is both a thriving New York City congregation and a global parish, with international ties to communities and ministries seeking to serve and transform the world.
The clergy, congregation, and staff of Trinity Church Wall Street take seriously the responsibility to strengthen the Anglican Communion, the worldwide network of churches, colleges, and agencies that includes 80 million people on six continents.
To meet that responsibility, Trinity convenes church leaders around the globe to share ideas on ministry, with special attention to Trinity’s strategic initiatives of leadership development and building financial capacity through the use of mission real estate.
Trinity has worked for decades with partners in Africa, began partnerships in Latin America and the Caribbean during the past five years, and, for the first time, convened archbishops in Asia in May 2019.
Anglican Church in Africa
For more than 30 years, Trinity has partnered with the Anglican Church in Africa in order to reinforce the bonds of the Anglican Communion, convene leaders for mutual learning, and empower local churches to best support their communities.
While congregations in Africa grow in membership, they often face severe financial challenges in terms of paying salaries to priests, maintaining buildings, and caring for people who are most in need. So Trinity, in partnership with Anglican bishops in Africa, has helped to organize a series of workshops to promote financial sustainability.
Latin America and the Caribbean
Trinity initiated partnerships with churches in the Anglican and Episcopal tradition in Latin America and the Caribbean upon the arrival of the Rev. Dr. William Lupfer as 18th Rector of Trinity in 2015.
Now, Trinity's partners in Latin America and the Caribbean convene annually to share insights and to discuss ways they are building leadership and financial capacity for their local parishes. These meetings provide opportunities to further deepen personal ties with each other.
Anglican Church in Asia
Trinity Church Wall Street held its first retreat for archbishops in Asia in May 2019, convening a group of approximately 20 people in South Korea. The purpose of the retreat was to share ideas on leadership in the Asian context.
Trinity looks to strengthen its partnerships in both East Asia and South Asia in the coming years with the people of the provinces, dioceses, and congregations that have deep histories within the Anglican/Episcopal tradition with emphasis on the strategic initiatives of leadership development and building financial capacity through use of mission real estate, as well as by sharing insights on core values in developing ministry identity within local contexts.
Trinity Union Fellows
The Trinity Union Fellows program annually brings six international students from China and India to New York City for a year of academic training, leadership development, and faith formation. The students engage in advanced theological study that prepares them for teaching, ministerial practice, specialized ministry functions, and doctoral level study.
Funded by a grant from Trinity Church Wall Street, Trinity Union Fellows are accepted as students in the Master of Sacred Theology (S.T.M) degree program at Union Theological Seminary. As part of the program, students participate in worship at Trinity and learn about the governance of the church. They also discover how Trinity’s core values of faith, integrity, inclusiveness, compassion, social justice and stewardship guide the church in fulfilling its mission to build neighborhoods that live Gospel truths, generations of faithful leaders, and sustainable communities.
