Walking Alongside Our Grantees

Trinity's support for our grantees goes beyond funding. We work in partnership with those we fund by building the capacity of grantee organizations, embracing their causes, and bringing people together in community.
Walking Alongside Our Grantees

Serving Those Who Serve Others

Core to our faith-based funding approach is building trust-based relationships with grantees, listening carefully to their needs and working to support them above and beyond the grant itself. We provide bespoke support for grantees—for example, helping ease the transition of a new Executive Director or facilitating the development of a new strategic plan—as well as capacity-building programs and convenings.

Across all Trinity grant initiatives, our focus is on the inherent dignity of those who work in the nonprofit and faith sector. We seek to elevate the voices of our grantee organizations, their staff, and their clients. We know that those directly impacted have valuable insights and solutions.

Partnership in Practice

Trinity Philanthropies team members participate in funder collaboratives focused on issue areas, geographies, and moments of crisis. To meet needs across New York City and the Anglican Communion, we must learn, fund, and advocate together.

How We Show Up

Capacity Building: We support grantee organizations in developing the skills they need to run successful, impactful organizations. This includes financial management technical assistance through the Nonprofit Finance Fund and communications campaigns with F.Y. Eye. It also includes leadership development training and mentorship.

Convening Community: We invite grantee organizations to host meetings and public events at Trinity Commons in Lower Manhattan, as well as retreats at the Trinity Retreat Center in West Cornwall, CT. We also embrace our role as convener, bringing together nonprofits, policymakers, and advocates to share ideas and cultivate community.

Championing Causes: Our grantees’ causes are our own. We are proud to incorporate youth, housing, mental health, and reentry into Trinity’s advocacy agenda. We also elevate the voices of our grantee partners and directly impacted individuals through our own communication networks.

Impact Stories

Campaigns for Change: F.Y. Eye Marketing Accelerator

F.Y. Eye builds public awareness about critical nonprofit resources, programs, and messages by creating public service announcements with local artists and creators. For several years, Trinity has created opportunities for grantees to work with F.Y. Eye. Most recently, we supported a collaboration between F.Y. Eye and the New York Immigration Coalition to produce the “New York Proud” campaign. This narrative shift and public art campaign reaffirmed the indispensable role of immigrants in shaping New York City’s identity through a living and growing collection of portraits and stories.

Frontline Support: Who Keeps the Keeper

Coming out of the COVID-19 pandemic, we heard increasing calls from our Racial Justice and Housing & Homelessness grantees for assistance with addressing burnout, stress, and turnover among frontline staff. We partnered with the BREATHE Collective, a Trinity grantee, to launch “Who Keeps the Keeper.” This nine-month program helps combat burnout and exhaustion while promoting self-care and healing for our Keepers: those working tirelessly on the front lines of our movement for equity, justice, and safety.

A Moment of Pause: Grantee Rest + Renewal Retreats

Trinity’s community of faith believes in the power of rest to help clarify our collective and individual purpose. Every year, we encourage our grantees to join us for three days of rest and renewal. At no cost, staff members of our grantee organizations join us at the Trinity Retreat Center to create community and tap into opportunities for self-care. Whether it’s taking a hike, petting donkeys, enjoying sites along the river, or practicing yoga and meditation, we create the space for those who care for others to care for themselves.
