Liturgy of Ash Wednesday Sermon, The Rt. Rev. Matthew Heyd: “Changed by the Story”

Bishop Matthew Heyd pointed out in his sermon today at Trinity that the Gospel reading, which warns against “practicing your piety before others in order to be seen,” falls on Ash Wednesday, a day when many Christians wear their faith on their foreheads. What are we to make of that? What’s needed is both witness and transformation, Bishop Heyd said. 

  “You can’t [tell] the story without being changed by the story … We do that, and the world is a different place, too.”
