As an attorney and strategist who works in social justice movements, Vaid has worked with many organizations, including American Civil Liberties Union, the National LGBTQ Anti-Poverty Action Network, the National LGBT/HIV Criminal Justice Working Group, and many other community-based groups.
Join us for this advanced conversation with Urvashi Vaid. Moderated by the Rev. Matt Welsch, Vaid will discuss her contribution to grassroots and community-based organizations, while also reflecting on how the pandemic has affected advocacy work in the LGBTQ+ community and the role of faith communities in the LGBTQ+ movement in the past and now. About Urvashi Vaid
Vaid started her working career as a staff attorney at the National Prison Project of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), where she initiated the group’s work on HIV/AIDS in prisons. She co-founded many organizations, including the Donors of Color Network, the National LGBTQ Anti-Poverty Action Network, the National LGBT/HIV Criminal Justice Working Group, LPAC, the Equality Federation, the National Religious Leadership Roundtable, and the Creating Change Conference of the National LGBTQ Task Force. Vaid also contributes her community service on the National Board of the Planned Parenthood Action Fund, The Provincetown Commons, the American Museum of LGBTQ History & Culture.
She is also an award-winning author and researcher. Her book Virtual Equality: The Mainstreaming of Gay and Lesbian Liberation won the Stonewall Book Award.
Vaid is a graduate of Northeastern University School of Law and Vassar College.

Matt Welsch serves as Priest for Youth & Family at Trinity Church Wall Street, where he uplifts the voices of congregational youth and walks with them in their journey of faith.
