Stewardship

Why We Give
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your Name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Have you ever noticed how Jesus uses collective language in the Lord’s Prayer? Our Father; our daily bread; forgive us. There are no individual requests; everything is communal. And that’s no accident. Jesus is pointing us to an essential truth: Our lives are interdependent, and one person’s need is our collective responsibility.
When things feel scarce or uncertain, it’s easy to focus on ourselves, to spend our time and energy searching for more or better. But Jesus shifts our concern to those around us — to our community. We ask God to provide for our needs, and then we join God’s work by being faithful with what we’ve already been given. Sometimes God meets our needs through one another.
Stewardship means using our financial resources not for selfish gain but for the good of all. At its core, it’s an embodiment of our trust in God and love for our neighbors.
May these words we say together each week be a reminder that, with God, there’s always enough to share. Amen.
