Trinity Church Announces Fall 2026 Music Season
Highlights include a celebration of the past, present, and future of American music, including a five-concert series honoring Steve Reich’s defining contributions to American music; Jazz Icons performances by Cécile McLorin Salvant and The Vanguard Jazz Orchestra

New York, NY — June 29, 2026 – Trinity Church NYC announces its fall 2026 music season, celebrating America’s musical legacy and future with a multiconcert tribute to composer Steve Reich as well as a powerful selection of sacred and secular masterworks. Trinity has long embraced a wide range of histories, perspectives, and diverse artistry through its programming, creating an ever-evolving portrait of American voices. Trinity also continues its critically acclaimed Jazz Icons and Concerts at One series, renowned for presenting virtuosic artists and groundbreaking performances that span tradition and innovation.
Reflecting our mission to offer music as a path toward healing, Trinity’s fall season opens on September 11 with Remembrance: 9/11, a concert commemorating the 25th anniversary of 9/11 and featuring Trinity Choir, Trinity Youth Chorus, Downtown Voices, and NOVUS. Trinity closes its weekend of remembrance from September 11–13 with Music on the Hour, a series of musical offerings of remembrance at St. Paul’s Chapel.
Trinity’s celebration of America’s musical legacy begins on September 20 with a Jazz Icons performance in collaboration with JAZZ HOUSE KiDS, featuring Cécile McLorin Salvant and Glenn Zaleski, two virtuoso creators whose imagination and cultural leadership are defining the evolving sound of American jazz. The series continues September 23 with Viet Cuong’s Next Week’s Trees and a performance of Steve Reich’s Tehillim in dialogue with the work that inspired it: Bach’s Christ lag in Todes Banden, BWV 4, performed by NOVUS on baroque instruments. The following weeks of Concerts at One (September 30 and October 7) place the music of Steve Reich in context with groundbreaking composers of today, including Andy Akiho, Caroline Shaw, David Lang, Jessie Montgomery, and Michi Wiancko, tracing themes of spirituality, resilience, and travelers in search of home.
On October 7, Trinity celebrates the 90th birthday of musical pioneer Steve Reich, who has profoundly shaped the sound of modern music. Featuring Tehillim, Proverb, Traveler’s Prayer, and Jacob’s Ladder, this performance highlights Reich’s long engagement with sacred texts and music that transforms patterns into meditative transcendence. Trinity Choir and new-music ensemble NOVUS will be joined for this performance by Sandbox Percussion, trailblazers in the world of contemporary chamber music.
Building on a long-standing creative partnership with Trinity Church, Sandbox Percussion will serve as the ensemble in residence for Trinity’s Reich celebration, bringing its imaginative interpretations to honor Steve Reich’s enduring influence.
Continuing Trinity’s commitment to presenting choral masterworks, Dame Jane Glover returns to conduct Downtown Voices and NOVUS in a performance of Mozart’s Mass in C Minor on November 4. Hailed as “the gold standard” by The New York Times, Trinity's beloved performance of Handel's Messiah returns on December 2, 3, and 4, with acclaimed guest conductor Nicholas McGegan.

After six decades of sessions at the legendary Village Vanguard, the world’s oldest continually operating jazz venue, The Vanguard Jazz Orchestra continues to set the standard for large ensemble jazz. Embodying the precision, risk-taking, and soul that have always defined the genre, this group has come to be known as America’s Big Band. Who is Marianna Martines? Let Trinity Choir and the NOVUS orchestra introduce you to the work of this brilliant yet previously overlooked contemporary of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Despite the limitations placed on women of her era, Martines forged a distinguished musical career, rising to become one of the most influential artistic figures in Vienna. Today’s program includes one of her finest compositions, the Dixit Dominus, a dramatic and intricate five-part choral masterpiece. It will be paired with Mozart’s Exsultate, jubilate, the beloved Ave verum corpus, and his third and perhaps best-known setting of Regina. Melissa Attebury, conductor.
